Guernsey FC closed the gap on second place in the Southern Combination Premier Division to five points after a 4-0 win at Bexhill United.

The third-placed Green Lions are now five points off Steyning Town - who they beat 3-2 on Saturday - with a game in hand after their 11th win in 12 games.

The islanders made an excellent start as Will Fazakerly headed against the post in the third minute.

They took the lead seven minutes later when Sam Murray headed home Callum Le Lacheur’s cross.

Guernsey’s top scorer got his second of the night when he tapped in Brandon Wallace’s cross soon after.

The hosts failed to convert a number of good chances either side of the break with Jack Shonk hitting the Guernsey bar 20 minutes after the restart.

Murray almost got his hat-trick with 15 minutes left when he narrowly missed with a header from a corner.

The hosts hit the post with eight minutes to go as they tried to get back into the game, while they also had a goal disallowed for offside.

But Guernsey made sure of all three points when Le Lacheur found the net in the 87th minute after Murray’s shot had been saved.

They wrapped up the victory in the third minute of stoppage time as Brandon Wallace fired into the top corner following good build up play by Wallace and Le Lacheur.
