Auston Trusty scored Celtic's second goal in Bologna

Celtic centre-half Auston Trusty has praised the impact of Martin O'Neill and his coaching staff after their 2-2 Europa League draw in Bologna.

Trusty, who scored their crucial second goal not long after Reo Hatate's ordering off, produced a man-of-the-match performance as the Italians pressed for a winner.

The display from the side was everything it had not been last time out in the competition against Roma under Wilfried Nancy.

The Frenchman has since been sacked, with O'Neill and assistant Shaun Maloney returning for their second spell in interim charge this season.

"We had a good spell with his first stint and, for them to come back in where we left off, that's what you've seen," Trusty said.

"That [following] spell didn't go our way, but we're here now and this is the focus and getting to that level of performance is what we want to see.

"This organisation is a winning organisation that wants to win and have really good performances.

"Yes, it's the players, but it's also the ability of the coaching.

"It's for the club, it's for the badge. For all of us, it's been an interesting part of the season where things didn't necessarily go our own way.

"But it shows the true character of the team to bounce back from that."

'Team can fold and cave... that's not us'

Celtic played for 56 minutes a man down but were resolute throughout as they prevented the Italians from pinching all three points in a nail-biting final quarter at a noisy Renato Dall'Ara.

"Obviously going down to 10 men with the majority of the game to go, it's not ideal," Trusty said.

"You have to hunker down and weather the storm, which we did for the majority of the game. They came back, but we still got a point.

"I'm just focused on getting that performance level every single week. The games in the league, we aren't really put under pressure in that fashion.

"A lot of teams can fold and cave and call it quits, but that's not the mentality that we have and that's not the mentality we're allowed to have."

Trusty revealed that midfielder Hatate apologised for his sending off that led to one-way traffic towards the Celtic goal thereafter.

"Yeah, he's said sorry, but at the same time, I've gotten red cards, everyone here has probably gotten red cards," he said.

"Things happen, it's football, we move on, you have your team-mates back. I don't think any of us blame him for it, we have his back.

"Obviously you don't mean to get a red card, but we just move on in the game.

"The timing of my goal was very, very good and to go into the second half up 2-0.

"I looked at the ref and thought something had happened, someone's offside, so I didn't really get the full celebration.

"But to score my goal and my first European goal, it's amazing. That's what I want to do, I want to score more goals and celebrate with the fans."
