Centre-back Kell Watts has signed a new contract with Cambridge United that will run until the summer of 2027.
The 26-year-old joined the U's from Premier League side Newcastle United on a two-year deal before the 2024-25 season and has since made 63 appearances.
Watts has played every league game so far this season, helping Cambridge into the play-off places as the club targets an immediate return to League One after relegation last term.
"The club showed they wanted me to stay, and I felt it was the right decision for my football career," Watts told the club website., external
"There are great people here and an environment that pushes me to improve every day, with the staff driving standards and making sure you have to earn your place every week."
U's boss Neil Harris said Watts' development during the past year had been "immense".
"He's matured into not just an excellent centre-half that has helped us improve as a group, but also as a human being and a leader as well," Harris said.
"We are excited about Kell's future. He's got potential to get better and better."
