Midfielder Noah Mawene has joined Southend on loan from Preston and could make his Shrimpers debut against Gateshead on Tuesday evening.

Mawene, whose father Youl spent six years with the Lilywhites, signed for the club at the age of 13 and captained their Under-18 team to a league and cup double in 2022.

He has made nine first-team appearances for North End so far, but only one this season – a brief substitute appearance against Southampton in November.

"I'm really fortunate, because this is a club that is ambitious and I want to help them get to where they want to get to," said Mawene.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan to Newport, making 14 League Two appearances for the South Wales club.
