Karlsson's Aberdeen loan cut short by Bologna

Jesper Karlsson scored six goals in 26 appearances for Aberdeen

Bologna have recalled Aberdeen's top scorer Jesper Karlsson from his loan at Pittodrie.
The Sweden international will join Utrecht for the rest of the season with the Dutch club having an option to buy the Sweden international permanently.
Karlsson, 27, arrived in Scotland at the end of the summer transfer window and has scored six times in 26 appearances for the Dons.
His signing was seen as a major coup given his parent club paid AZ Alkmaar £10m for his services in 2023 but he has failed to shine in a struggling Aberdeen side this season.
A key reason behind Karlsson joining the Pittodrie outfit was to work with his former Elfsborg manager Jimmy Thelin, who was sacked earlier this month.
"We were notified on Wednesday evening of Bologna's decision to recall Jesper," Aberdeen sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said.
"Jesper and I had a very good conversation. He was extremely thankful for his time in Aberdeen, and we wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.
"From our perspective, given that this clause existed within the loan agreement, we have been scenario-planning for some time in the event it was activated.
"We remain committed to developing the players we have invested in, while also continuing to explore opportunities to strengthen the squad in areas where we believe improvement is still required."
Karlsson was keen to thank Aberdeen supporters after his spell in Scotland was cut short.
"I have really enjoyed my time here and in Scotland.
"Results didn't always go as we had hoped, but Aberdeen is a great club with a fantastic fanbase, and I would like to thank everyone for how I was treated.
"I would also like to wish the staff, my teammates and the supporters all the very best for the future."
