McGinley guided Sion Swifts to League Cup glory in 2022 before stepping down in November

Sion Swifts have appointed former Portadown Ladies coach Stephen Gray as their new manager.

Gray has also previously held coaching positions with underage teams at Women's Premier Division sides Shelbourne and Athlone Town.

He replaces long-serving manager Tony McGinley, who stepped down from his role in November.

Sion finished fourth in the Women's Premiership last season.

McGinley led the Strabane outfit to the Challenge Cup in 2017 before they were pipped to the Women's Premiership title by Linfield on goal difference in 2019.

He then helped them to League Cup success in 2022 as they beat Cliftonville after extra-time in the final.

As well as losing McGinley, Sion stalwart Kelly Crompton, who had spent her whole career with the club, departed to sign for Women's Premier Division side Sligo Rovers.
