Martyn Waghorn's opener for Derby was the quickest goal scored in the Championship on Saturday
Martyn Waghorn's double earned a Derby a draw at Stoke, who picked up their first Championship point of the season.
Waghorn scored his first after just two minutes, firing in left-footed on the turn from Kieran Dowell's pass.
That opener was cancelled out before half-time as Liam Lindsay's goal-bound header went in off Scott Hogan, who gave Stoke the lead after the interval when he turned in Lee Gregory's low cross from inside the box.
But Waghorn ensured Derby would remain unbeaten under new boss Phillip Cocu, converting from the spot after a foul in the area.
Stoke began the game as one of three sides without a point in the second tier, and made the worst possible start against a Derby team that had taken four points from their first two league matches.
Waghorn, who went into the match having had more shots than any other Championship player in the first two rounds of fixtures, got off the mark for the season with a wonderful first-time effort that gave England goalkeeper Jack Butland no chance.
Joe Allen and Tom Ince both struck the woodwork either side of Stoke's equaliser. Allen's miss was a particularly glaring one, the Wales midfielder hitting the post from three yards after visiting goalkeeper Kelle Roos had kept out a Sam Clucas header.
Waghorn's spot-kick denied the hosts their first league win of the season and the striker had a magnificent chance to win it when he went through one-on-one, but Butland made an excellent save to preserve a point for his team.
Stoke manager Nathan Jones:
"I am devastated with the result to be honest. I work so hard. I do 12 hours a day, seven days a week to plan and put structures in place.
"I am distraught that we couldn't get one more goal than the opposition, because we created twice as many chances. I am sick and tired of us missing chances because this has cost us today.
"We should have six points and instead we have one. We are a good side, a really good side. We are an outstanding side outside both boxes, but in the boxes we are an average side."
Derby boss Phillip Cocu:
"It is a good draw for us and the right result, when you look at the game. Stoke had chances and hit the bar a couple of times so it is a result we can live with.
"The first goal was a great goal. We started well and it is just a pity we couldn't keep the initiative and get the second goal.
"If you dominate and have the initiative in the game then you can play very well with our system. If you lose the ball too often you struggle. We were better in the second half."
