Macclesfield Town 2-1 Carlisle United

Macclesfield Town avoided setting a new unwanted English Football League record as they came from behind to beat Carlisle United and register their first win since their return to League Two.

The Silkmen had gone 36 consecutive league games without a league win, equalling Derby County's record set in 2008, before hosting the Cumbrians.

The promoted club had parted company with manager Mark Yates on 8 October after taking just four points from their first 12 games of the campaign.

Things had looked bleak for the beleaguered Cheshire side when the visitors took the lead five minutes into the second half, with Ashley Nadesan bundling in a controversial goal as the home defence called for a foul on goalkeeper Rhys Taylor.

But Michael Rose tucked away a 79th-minute penalty to draw the hosts level after Sam Adewusi had brought down Ben Stephens in the box.

Substitute Harry Smith had two fine chances but headed one over and hit the other straight at Carlisle goalkeeper Adam Collin.

And with seven minutes left on the clock Peter Vincenti struck, latching onto Smith's ball across the area to slot in a priceless goal and end the winless streak, which stretched back to their last spell in League Two in 2012.

Macclesfield remain bottom of the table but are now three points from safety.
