Grimsby Town 0-3 Oldham Athletic

Sam Surridge netted twice in two minutes as Oldham Athletic inflicted a fourth-straight defeat on Grimsby Town courtesy of a 3-0 victory.

After a goalless first half at Blundell Park, the dangerous frontman scored his third and fourth goals of the season, before Jose Baxter added a third late on.

Chances were few and far between in the opening exchanges but it was the hosts that first started to create as the half wore on.

Jordan Cook blazed over on the stretch, from a corner, while early substitute Charles Vernam evaded three tackles before seeing a powerful drive blocked.

But the golden opportunity fell to Elliot Embleton, who ought to have scored his first senior goal on the back of a slick team move.

After the break, loan midfielder Embleton went close once again - but it was at the other end where the damage was done.

Indeed, no sooner than Surridge has spotted and exploited a gap in the Grimsby defence, he settled the scores with an almost identical, right-footed finish, while substitute Baxter headed a close-range third at the death.
