Adam Reach put Sheffield Wednesday ahead after just 12 minutes
Sheffield Wednesday picked up their third successive win as Reading were left still searching for their first three points of the season.
Adam Reach put the Owls ahead when he fired home a Matthew Penney ball across the area after Reading midfielder Sone Aluko had been dispossessed.
The visitors doubled their lead within 14 seconds of the restart as Lucas Joao curled in a fine effort from outside the box for his third goal in two league games.
Reading did pull themselves back into it with a Liam Moore header from Leandro Bacuna's corner but Paul Clement side's were unable to force an equaliser.
The Royals have lost all three of their home league matches this campaign, accruing just two points from a possible 18.
Boss Clement has now presided over two wins from his 15 matches in charge at the Madejski Stadium, stretching back to his appointment at the end of March.
For Wednesday, three wins in three lift them into the top 10 and their margin of victory could have been more comfortable had Atdhe Nuhiu not been denied by a fine Vito Mannone save on the hour.
Forward Joao maintained his fine recent form on the back of two goals in the 2-1 victory against Ipswich last Saturday.
Reading manager Paul Clement told BBC Radio Berkshire:
"It's not great, it's very frustrating for me, the players and the club how we've started this season.
"The reason we are where we are is we're not good enough. We've got to start doing the basics better.
"The second goal we concede comes within 20 seconds of us talking in the changing room about how we're going to try and force our way back into the game and what jobs we need to do.
"Suddenly the ball's in the back of the net and we're left with a mountain to climb. Clearly I'm going to be looking very, very closely at how I prepare this team."
Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay said:
"We had four or five chances today but we were effective in the final third and took two of them very well.
"We said at half-time we want more control of the game, to keep the ball better and create the spaces.
"There is a winning mood in the squad, three games in a row and now we have the international break to recover the players and get ready for the next game."
