Josh Murphy celebrates scoring for a second successive game for Norwich City
Norwich ended a three-game losing run in the Championship but were held to a draw by Barnsley at Carrow Road.
Josh Murphy's deflected shot put Norwich in front against the early run of play.
City's Nelson Oliveira and Barnsley's Adam Hammill had two decent chances each before the break.
But it was Harvey Barnes who levelled for the Tykes early in the second half, getting his third goal in four games after excellent play by George Moncur.
Both sides remain in mid-table after sharing the points.
Having begun with a back four, City replaced James Husband with Christoph Zimmermann at half-time and switched to a back three, but the tactical change failed to pay off as Leicester City loanee Barnes fired past Angus Gunn almost immediately after the restart.
Angus MacDonald made an excellent block from Oliveira soon after the equaliser, while Tykes goalkeeper Adam Davies tipped over an effort from City attacker James Maddison.
Barnsley pushed for a winner as the game wore on, with Barnes curling over the bar deep into stoppage time.
Norwich boss Daniel Farke:
"The fans were feeling the same as us - very frustrated. It was a pretty poor performance and we certainly didn't deserve to win this game. I thought a draw was a fair result.
"We had a lot of good, technical players on the pitch but our passing quality was just not good enough.
"We gave the ball away too much and didn't move it quickly enough. We didn't create enough chances either and we also lost too many individual battles.
"I think the players have lost a bit of self-confidence and the only way that will change is if we start winning games. I think we would all take a narrow, hard-fought win at the moment."
Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom:
"I thought we did enough to have won the game, and the fact we didn't is down to two reasons.
"Only one thing made me angry today and that was their goal. We knew they liked to take free-kicks quickly and on this occasion a few of the players thought a free-kick had been awarded harshly and turned to the referee instead of focusing on the ball.
"The other thing that was disappointing was that although we played well we didn't create as many chances as I would have liked. (Norwich goalkeeper) Angus Gunn had to make a few saves, but not nearly enough.
"I always try and look at the bigger picture and we've come a hell of a long way in a short space of time. I've just spoken to the lads and two things that came out were that we are now a match for anyone is this league, and we will keep getting better."
