League One leaders Shrewsbury Town had to come from behind to maintain the EFL's only unbeaten record with a local derby draw at Walsall.

Dan Agyei put Walsall ahead on 13 minutes with a 20-yard right-foot shot.

It dipped over former Walsall keeper Craig MacGillivray, on only his second league appearance for Shrewsbury.

But Stefan Payne then equalised seven minutes later with a penalty, sending home keeper Mark Gillespie the wrong way from the spot.

Payne took the kick himself after his close-range header had been handled by Jon Guthrie.

He was close to a second just before the break when he had the ball in the Walsall net only for it to be disallowed for offside - to the frustration of the 1,643 Shrewsbury fans in an attendance of 5,971.

But it was visiting keeper MacGillivray who produced an excellent save in the dying minutes to tip away former Shrewsbury loan signing Tyler Roberts' close-range header.

Shrewsbury remain unbeaten after 12 matches, but their lead is cut to two points following Wigan's victory at Scunthorpe.
