Extending the field to 128 has worked, hasn't it? A lot more prize money so some will go and reinvest into their career.

It has been a great event. We're going to keep seeing new faces. There's still just one man to stop, isn't there?

When Adrian Lewis won in 2011 and 2012, you were thinking that he was going win another three, four or five. You don't know when all of this stops.

You never know when this ends.

He may have peaked, you never know, this is why it is so special.

He's just going to keep winning titles isn't he? We're clutching to a little bit of desperation that he hasn't got a nightly win in a fortnight in the Premier League or something.

To beat him at the minute, you've got to be perfect.

Luke Littler and Gian van Veen were asked by Sky Sports about this being a final with two young players:

Littler: "We're always going to have battles. Now he's number three in the world then 2027, me and Gian might come back here in the final. You never know. We're going to play so many times. We'll be battling week in, week out."

Van Veen: "I said it all week, the young boys are here and we're trying to take over the guard. He's done it so far [Littler]. This game is for the young players now and we're here to show how it's done."

Luke Littler joins four other players on two PDC world titles

Luke Littler is special. Very special.

His two PDC world titles now mean that only Phil Taylor (14) and Michael van Gerwen (three) have more than the teenager.

Can he get close to Taylor's record?

Sensational stuff from Luke but we need to remember he’s only 18. A mature head on young shoulders no doubt but let’s enjoy one win at a time. Too early to talk about records!

The Luke Locomotive just ran away with it: Gian didn't play bad, he just got outplayed in every form, scoring, finishing.

There's nothing he can't do on a dartboard. It was like Phil Taylor, when he played well, he won. When he plays well, he's winning. It really is about him at moment.

The format doesn't matter any more. He's just the best.

Luke Littler's family have now joined him on stage to give him a big hug and pose for pictures with the Sid Waddell Trophy.

Something tells me they'll be up there a few more times over the years.

  13. 'I would have liked to give Luke a game'published at 21:58 GMT 3 January

    Result: Littler 7-1 Van Veen

Runner-up Gian van Veen on his performance today: "The scoring maybe tonight wasn't my greatest game in the whole tournament. Luke wasn't in the mood to give me any more chances. He played phenomenally. I missed too many chances to make it an even game. That's why he's world number one by a margin now and back-to-back world champion."

On proving himself at the World Darts Championship: "Today I would have liked to lift up the title but I would have liked to give Luke a game and that's what I didn't do today. I'm very proud of getting to the final, number three in the world now, Dutch number one. I'm very proud of myself but disappointed today."

On being proud of his journey from having dartitis to reaching the final: "Of course I'm very proud. I'm very proud of getting to the final. I'm disappointed not to win. Luke is a fantastic player, I just want to give him a game. I played OK but I missed too many chances. Hopefully, 2026 is going to be a fantastic year."

Luke Littler has also won the Ballon d'Art for the most 180s with 73.

Gary Anderson was second with 59.

The total in the tournament was 1127 so that means more than £1.1m donated by tournament sponsors to Prostate Cancer UK.

  15. 'It is life-changing'published at 21:54 GMT 3 January

    Result: Littler 7-1 Van Veen

Luke Littler, speaking on Sky Sports after clinching a second world title: "It feels amazing. First of all, I've got to say thank you to John McDonald and George Noble - what fantastic careers they have had.

"Everyone knows what happened with Anthony Joshua and his team, rest in peace to his friends, just like AJ said... the first time was so nice, I had to do it twice.

"I wasn't happy going into the break 1-0 down, but I had to kick on from there. I said just give it time, you'll find it. It all came to plan. Gian, what a tournament, he can be very happy for himself."

On getting closer to the winning line: "For myself, I was getting closer and closer but you can't think of it too much. It [the trophy] is right next to you on stage but you've just got to keep going."

On winning the £1m prize money: "It is life-changing for anyone. Even the first round was doubled. It's life-changing, this win has just increased that gap from Luke Humphries and I'm in the clear as world number one."

On whether he would ever have imagined being here: "Not a chance. I didn't think it would be anything like it has been. I've been practising, the family and friends have always been there to support me.

"It's very special. We've got to keep going, we've got to keep adding more titles. We can't stop here. We're still on this rollercoaster."

What a performance from Luke Littler.

He is just unstoppable in that kind of form. Relentless scoring power, calm under pressure and always liable to take out the big checkouts.

What is anyone meant to when he plays like that?
