  2. 'Top order nailed it'published at 08:58 GMT 9 February

Scotland captain Richie Berrington: "It was important for us to bounce back strong today. Really pleased to get our first win of the tournament. In the end it was fairly comprehensive but we had to work hard for it.

"George Munsey is such an important player for us at the top of the order. He sets the tempo and hard to bowl at when he gets going. It's great to see him in form. He gave us that platform today.

"It was pleasing to see after the previous game [against West Indies] that the top-order nailed it today. Important that we got over 200 on that pitch and great to see guys playing well.

"With the ball we knew early wickets in the powerplay was key and it put us on the front foot. I was pleased with the way the bowlers stuck to the plans. We managed to pick up some quick wickets which was really important there in defending that score.

"It's great we've had two outings at Eden Gardens. We'll enjoy the next few days before we face England. The guys have embraced playing in this tournament and there's good energy about the group. Today's win will help. We know we will have to prepare well for Saturday."

The game was set up in the first phase of the game by George Munsey. I'm sure he'll give Michael Leask some stick in the changing room about the player of the match award.

  4. 'Special to bat with my brother...'published at 08:52 GMT 9 February

Italy vice-captain Harry Manenti: "Obviously Wayne Madsen had a tough fall when he hit the deck and dislocated his shoulder. More to come with that. Obviously he's our leader and has played for a long time and wanted to show the world his abilities. It's sad for him personally and for us as a team.

"We thought going into the innings break they had got just above par so if we batted well and had a good powerplay we would back ourselves to chase it. Obviously once you lose a few wickets it's tough. You need things to go right for you and unfortunately it didn't today.

"I think when you chasing 200 you have to go hard. There's going to be times when it doesn't come off and you lose wickets. It's high-risk T20 cricket. It was pretty special to bat at a World Cup with my brother. I probably didn't take it in during the game while we were out there but hopefully we can sit down and reflect on it. It would have nice to contribute to a win, but it was special given we grew up playing backyard cricket hoping to play at World Cup one day."

It's not often you score 84 and take four outfield catches, as George Munsey did today, and not get the player of the match award.

  7. 'A chance to make Super 8s'published at 08:44 GMT 9 February

    Michael LeaskImage source, Getty Images

Player of the match Michael Leask: "For me it was a full team performance today. It's been a lot of hard work coming into this tournament given the amount of prep time we had. It shows how much dedication we had to work hard.

"With the bat if it's in the arc, it's my job to get after it. I wear my heart on my sleeve and if the ball is there I will try to hit it for six and today was no different.

"We learned a lot from game one. It's a lot more back of a length and into the surface. Obviously with it being a day match there is a little more assistance. I got a little bit lucky at times but it's nice to get four wickets.

"We have two more matches to get through to the Super 8s and we have a chance after winning today."

  10. champagne moment

SCOTLAND WIN BY 73 RUNSpublished at 08:35 GMT 9 February

Wayne Madsen, understandably, does not bat given the forlorn nature of Italy's predicament.

Italy were in the chase for a while but in the end a comfortable victory for Scotland at Eden Gardens - their World Cup is up and running.

We've seen some fantastic catching by Scotland; they have backed up their bowlers well.

    Ali Hasan perishes.

He skies Brad Wheal and Richie Berrington dashes from inside the ring to take a catch over his shoulder.

Italy captain Wayne Madsen, who dislocated his shoulder earlier, will not bat so it looks like this could be it.

    Rinse and repeat for Scotland.

Mark Watt gives it some flight. Thomas Draca attempts to hit down the ground. Brandon McMullen takes the catch at long-on.

A huge ask for Italy now.

What's the Italian for groundhog day?

Gian-Piero Meade becomes the latest Italian batter to fall with a bosh down the ground.

Michael Leask tosses another up and Meade pings it down the throat of Brandon McMullen at long-on.

From a strategic and tactical point, they have not really thought about which players to target - I'd have seen off this over.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14.1 overs

    Stewart c Munsey b Leask 2 (Ita 129-6)

Grant Stewart caught downtown this time!

Michael Leask gives it a bit of fair and the Kent all-rounder takes the bait, attempting to hit it straight only to find the safe hands of George Munsey.

That's Munsey's fourth catch in the innings.

Scotland in the box seat now.

I know there has been plenty of chat between these two teams in previous matches and it's getting pretty tasty out there.

Olly Davidson follows Michael Leask's lead by giving Ben Manenti a send-off.
