One man who will have a close eye on Fabio Wardley v Daniel Dubois when they meet on 9 May is fellow British heavyweight Tyson Fury.

The two-time heavyweight champion recently announced his latest stint of retirement was over. Fury faces Arslanbek Makhmudov on 11 April.

At a news conference earlier this month, Fury said he wanted to "make boxing great again".

Fury has made no secret of his desire to be a three-time world champion. Could he be waiting for the winner?

Fighters dream of beating a champion in the ring to become a world champion, but that's not how it panned out for Fabio Wardley.

The Ipswich fighter found out he had been elevated from interim to outright champion over the phone.

I'm not sure how much intent there was from Daniel Dubois to snub the fist bump. It looked to me like unfortunate timing.

Dubois turned to walk away just as Fabio Wardley raised his fist.

I can already see the GIFs being created, though.

After beating Joseph Parker to win the WBO 'interim' heavyweight title in October, Fabio Wardley set his sights on WBA 'super', WBC and IBF champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Wardley was Usyk's mandatory challenger but the Ukrainian opted to relinquish the belt in November and the Ipswich fighter was subsequently upgraded to full champion.

Just prior being upgraded, Wardley spoke with BBC Sport's Kal Sajad about his desire to face Usyk.

Daniel Dubois also deserves some credit for taking this one. Yes, it’s another world-title opportunity, but after that heavy loss to Oleksandr Usyk last summer he could have opted for a much easier night’s work and a safer payday.

Instead, he’s gone straight back in at the top level. Another defeat here would mean a serious rebuild, and world-title shots don’t come around too often after back-to-back losses. All the momentum is with Fabio Wardley coming in.

Both fighters look very sharp in their suits - Fabio Wardley has the WBO title wrapped around his shoulder.

The final word goes to WBO champion Fabio Wardley:

"I flatten Daniel, wipe him out. Don has dared me to meet him in the middle of the ring... I don't need daring.

"You know what is in me. I will walk to the centre of the ring and your man will be taking the first step back."

Fabio Wardley:

"My power is proven. If there's time left on the clock I'm taking you out of the fight.

"A lot has been made of Don [Charles] and Daniel [Dubois] but I don't care. One trainer, two trainers it doesn't matter.

"It's going to be my and Daniel in the ring and I'll be throwing bombs.

"If you look back you see when it gets dicey, he's not up for it."

"I've got what it takes, you'll see on the night," Dubois says.

Back to the fighters.

Daniel Dubois says he is "full of confidence and can't wait to go".

"Victory by knockout, by any means necessary," Dubois adds.

"We've got a solid team and we'll show it on the night."

After all that bickering, Frank Warren restores a little order:

"The winner of this will be fighting in a big stadium fight. But to get there they have to lace them up and we'll see who is the best on the night.

"Both camps are passionate about their fighters, so it has all the ingredients of an amazing event."

Adam Smith wants to hear more from Don Charles and asks him to talk about Daniel Dubois:

"He is a specialist at taking people's zero. He knows how to beat unbeaten fighters.

"I know their team very well, I know their DNA. I have a history with Fabio Wardley but I won't expand on that today."

Michael Ofo presents Don Charles with a list of who Fabio Wardley has beaten - Joseph Parker, Justis Huni, Frazer Clarke - he says.

"Talk is cheap," says Charles before slamming down his microphone.

Now we hear from Daniel Dubois' trainer Don Charles:

"Talk is cheap. I don't have lot to say. I'll talk today about what happens on 9 May and that's it.

"Daniel doesn't have anything to prove. He's only lost to one man - Usyk."

Michael Ofo says "Joe Joyce?".

Dubois has of course lost three times in his career - twice to Usyk and once to Joyce.

Charles says: "That was too early in his career. Who has Fabio faced?"
