How can France win the Six Nations at Murrayfield?

The penultimate round of the Six Nations takes place this weekend with France able to secure back-to-back titles by beating Scotland on Saturday.

Ireland battled to a 27-17 bonus-point victory over Wales on Friday to move into second place in the standings and keep alive their championship hopes.

But France, who have won every game with maximum points so far, will retain their crown with a round to spare if they can secure a bonus-point win at Murrayfield.

If France lose but pick up at least a point, or Scotland win without a bonus point, Fabien Galthie's side will remain in control given their superior points difference.

A Scotland bonus-point win and nothing for the visitors would leave Gregor Townsend's side in a position to win the title by claiming another maximum-point win in their final-round match against Ireland in Dublin.

After missing out on a bonus point against Italy, Ireland will probably need France to lose their final two games without securing a bonus point as well as securing their own bonus-point win over Scotland.

France, who are chasing what would be their first Grand Slam since 2022, host England in the final game of the tournament, while Italy travel to Cardiff to face Wales.

England are out of title contention after managing only one win from their first three games.

Can Wales avoid another Wooden Spoon?

Wales face the prospect of finishing bottom of the table after falling to defeat in Dublin on Friday.

Wales are making progress under Steve Tandy but have lost all four of their matches this year and are without a Six Nations win since 2023.

They would have to beat Italy next weekend and hope other results go their way to avoid the Wooden Spoon for last place.

If England beat Italy in Rome on Saturday and deny the hosts any extra points then the Azzurri could end up with a 19th Wooden Spoon.

But defeat for England in Rome, without picking up any championship points, would leave Steve Borthwick's side in danger of finishing bottom of the Six Nations for the first time.

It would keep England on five points with a tough trip to Paris to face France on the final day awaiting them.
