Clogher manager Steven McKenna accepts his side "just didn't get going" early in the second half of their All-Ireland Junior football final against Ballymacelligott.

The Tyrone side saw a two-point advantage at the break turned into a four-point deficit as they were left chasing the game.

Despite having plenty of chances, they couldn't convert as the Kerry side claimed a 1-16 to 0-13 win to leave the Ulster champions crestfallen.

Ciaran Bogue was off target with a couple of goal chances, while Ryan McCaughey also saw an effort go the wrong side of the post, Fionnbrr McCaughey struck the outside of the post late on and Michael McCaughey blazed over to cap a frustrating day.

"We probably felt we left a few scores behind us in the first half, Ciaran had a good goal chance," McKenna told BBC Sport NI.

"In the second half, we just didn't get going. They flew out of the blocks hit three or four scores and it probably shook us a bit, so it's just disappointing we didn't get going after how we started the game.

"We have goal-getters in our team, so the confidence is we would convert them but it just wasn't the case although we created them."

As the Ballymacelligott players celebrated in their dressing room, McKenna tried to reflect a memorable year for his club.

Having won Tyrone, they claimed a first provincial crown and reached and All-Ireland final, but falling short in the decider was ultimately disappointing.

"We'll appreciate what we've done, but it is bittersweet," McKenna added.

"When you get to this level, you want to finish the job, but I couldn't be prouder of the group of players as they have given us everything.

"They put in the work from last October and it worked right through, so the important thing is where we go from here."
