Sheffield Wednesday were held to a controversial goalless Championship draw at Loftus Road against QPR.

The flashpoint came in the first half as QPR defender Clint Hill appeared to foul Modou Sougou - who had to go off on a stretcher - when through on goal but the referee awarded no free-kick.

The visitors were, again, given no penalty in the second half when Paul Konchesky tangled with Lucas Joao.

Tjaronn Chery had an effort saved in the home side's best chance.

The Dutchman had been found by Matt Phillips's cross, but Keiren Westwood produced a crucial save to keep the game scoreless. Shortly after, Phillips fired over the crossbar after drifting in from the right.

Chris Ramsey's side, who were without injured striker Charlie Austin, have won only one of their last seven matches.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas played as a lone striker in Austin's absence, and his 69th-minute substitution for Netherlands winger Leroy Fer was met with derision from the home fans.

Wednesday had chances to win the match themselves. Midfielder Barry Bannan had the best of them, blazing over after cutting inside in the first half.

Joao headed wide from Ross Wallace's cross, before Bannan got another opportunity late on but again failed to hit the target with his effort.

QPR manager Chris Ramsey:

"Criticism from the fans doesn't help me, but at the end of the day that's part of being sat in this chair.

"Unfortunately, in this game one week you know what you're doing and the next week you don't.

"The fans are entitled to their opinion. They've come here on a Tuesday night and are disappointed not to get the three points.

"I can assure them we are trying our best to make them happy. Sometimes we will fall short of the mark."

Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal:

"Sougou has been taken to hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder.

"I won't talk about the referee. Referees have a difficult job to do. Everyone can see it, so they can make their own judgement on these things.

"I'm disappointed to have taken only two points from the last two matches. I wanted six, so I'm not really satisfied."
