Gillingham lost their place at the top of League One and saw their unbeaten record end after defeat at Colchester.

Cody McDonald hit the post for Gillingham before Gavin Massey met a Callum Harriott pass to give Colchester a fourth-minute lead.

Luke Norris levelled moments later but Colchester went ahead again thanks to Harriott's fine left-foot shot.

Colchester goalkeeper Jamie Jones saved a Cody McDonald penalty and made a string of saves to ensure victory.

The Gills drop to third after Burton won at Swindon and Walsall drew at Peterborough, while Colchester move into the top half after back-to-back wins.
