Bradford City: Chelsea's Mourinho 'doesn't do philosophy' - Parkinson

Bradford City boss Phil Parkinson says Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho's success is down to his willingness to adapt.

In 15 years, Mourinho has already won 16 major trophies in spells with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Bradford travel to the Premier League leaders in the FA Cup on Saturday.

"All the time it's 'philosophy' but no one's so good to say 'we play like this irrespective'. He respects opposition and makes plans to win games - that is why he is so good," said Parkinson.

In April last year, with Chelsea having only an outside shot of securing the Premier League title, Mourinho played a weakened team away at leaders Liverpool - and the Blues won 2-0.

"That game at Anfield is a classic example. He set up to be direct, horrible, and uncompromising all over the pitch, and won," Parkinson, 47, told BBC Radio Leeds.

"He's not bothered about what anybody says about him about playing the beautiful game or not, his job is to win games of football and that's what he does."

Saturday will also be Parkinson's second FA Cup meeting with Mourinho, after Chelsea narrowly beat Colchester United, external in 2006.

Bradford's run to the fourth round of football's oldest competition comes just two years after Parkinson's men, then a fourth-tier club, knocked out Wigan, Arsenal and Aston Villa en route to the League Cup final.

"In that cup run we gave all the opposition respect but we were aggressive and believed in ourselves, so we'll do the same this time," he continued.

"When I was at Colchester, it was a great performance. We played positively and surprised them with our intensity. What's important is to compete in the challenge and ruffle some feathers."
