It was a bleak, sleety day in South Yorkshire, and I found myself trotting up Sharrow Vale Road when a magical, savoury smell assailed my flared nostrils, tempting and beckoning me towards a small, traditional shop with an intriguing sign above the door. "Hot pork sandwiches," it said. Never one to shy away from my duty to my dear readers, I entered Rony's. As you know, I'm a delicate cow, a bashful bovine, so I only went for the small hot pork sandwich with all the trimmings (crackling, stuffing, apple sauce). I prepared to face the cold once more, and stepped outside. But this time, I had a hot steaming packet in my hooves. I took a tentative nibble. The world suddenly seemed to warm up. I swear I felt sunshine on my back and heard birds singing. It was as if winter melted away with that one fateful bite. But enough of all that. What you really need to know is that, so far, Rony's does the best hot roast pork sarnie I've found in our fair city. The pork is tasty, juicy, unctuous and (a big hooray for me) not too salty. The crackling is doled out in generous portions. The stuffing - show me a time when stuffing's a bad thing, I haven't found it yet. And apple sauce - well, that's all the essential food groups covered! I savoured my sandwich, and it left me feeling full. I decided it was too good a secret to share, so took the Bull the next time I dragged him round the shops in that part of town. (Yes, we did go to a china shop. No, he didn't enjoy it very much.) "I'm not really hungry," he said as we approached Rony's. I smiled knowingly to myself. "Maybe I could manage a small something," he admitted bravely, as we went through the door. By the time it was our turn at the counter, he'd cleared enough space in his tummies (we do have four of them, dears!) for a LARGE hot roast pork sandwich with all the trimmings. He ate the lot without seeming to struggle - what a hero. I had a turkey and stuffing one, and it was equally yummy. So yes. Probably not the sort of sarnie for a hot sunny summer's day, but for 364 days of the year, it's a hot favourite for the best sarnie in town

russs bestist sarnni that end of town not only pork Craig Harris Can't fault any of that but you might like to try Bere's Pork sandwiches at Hillsboro' or Herries Road. Everything that roney's has but a generous dip in the meat juices as well that makes all the difference to the taste.
