Every night, the tantalising smells of the New Zing Vaa takeaway drift like Bisto gravy steam, down the Ecclesall Road, beckoning tired workers and students to their door. But the smell is not of oxtails, but of sweet, fragrant spices.

I think the word for this place is "refreshing". It’s not the cheapest Chinese, but the food is really good. Really good. And what’s nice is that, as well as the usuals, there are some dishes which recall the sort of Chinese food my grandmother used to make.

Take the salt and pepper ribs. These are so meltingly tender and succulent that Mother of Greedy Cow plans her trips up North around New Zing Vaa’s opening hours. (Yes, it does run in the family…) They’re miles from the "stir fry meat, chuck in veg, add one of three bottled sauces" that Chinese food has, in some places, declined to.

The shop front is always sparkling, and you can watch them cooking your meal while you wait. I’ve never really understood why this is so reassuring. Maybe it just gets your tastebuds flowing so that the food tastes even better once you get it home. That would certainly explain the pool of drool at my feet each time I go in there. Top of the class.

Really good, even the prawn crackers are a cut above what you usually expect from a chinese take away. Expensive but really top notch Cantonese. Ingredients looked and tasted very fresh.

To anyone that has a bad review of Zing Vaa...are you mental?! Every time I've been (and there have been many in 3yrs at Sheff Uni) the food has been excellent, vastly superior to any of the chinese takeaways around Broomhill, Crookesmoor or Walkley. Try the specials...

Having been there twice i have decided to call it a day. the food really looked like it had been scraped from a road, and didn't taste much better either. Anyone that thinks this chinese is great needs to get about a bit more. sorry!

Oh this place is fab ! Went on the strength of the reviews on the GW website and was not disapppointed. Their KP Curry is deliciously hot & spicy. KP with ginger & spring oinion also yummy. Starters of veggie spring rolls and samosas were also wolfed down with gusto. A brilliant Chinese takeaway - well worth the drive to ! 4 Moos from me

Have been to new zing many times and found the food to be consistently good. Salt and pepper chicken is superb and the sweet and sour chicken is another winner.

I don't live very near this takeaway, but regularly go there anyway as it is so good. Particularly good vegetarian selection.

Quite possibly the worst chinese meal i have ever tasted. We eagerly brought home our take away after hearing everybody go on about this place, only to be really disappointed. The chicken and veg dish smelt like burnt plastic, and the rice also had an offensive odour. We ended up throwing nearly all of our meal in the bin, so not only was it a waste of money but we were left hungry as well, not good! Being new to Sheffield we are disappointed at the lack of good eateries, any decent no of eating out places in fact. Come on Sheffield, move with the times!

top notch ,try fillet of beef in blackbean sauce with peppers mmmmmmmmm.even seen local top chef/restauranters getting takeaway for the family which is reassuring
