What's your name? Kelly Boss
Where is it? 44-46 Campo Lane Cathedral Quarter Sheffield S1 2EG What's the number? 0114 276 3988 What's the grub like, then? Lunch which starts at 12 and remarkably doesn't stop till dinner (6pm) is always a satisfingly varied affair, and changes with the season. The ubiquitous burger which is alreay hailed as one of the finest in the city is fantastic as their speciality sandwiches. Daily changing specials covering soup, starters and the new pie/casserole of the day are a change for the regular, with the other menu offerings begging to be tried with each new visit. Dinner steps up a gear and the offerings of derbyshire venison, pork loin and grey mullet are tempting. However the Daube of Beef with thyme mash is one of the most sublime dishes I've eaten and hopefully one never to leave the menu. Polish things off with the Eccles cake or the roasted tamarillo and vanilla ice cream and you'll have found an eating exerience where you'll not be left wanting. What did you drink? Erdinger, Budvar. Beautiful wine, fine coffee.
What's the crowd like? At lunch a good mixture of wine quaffing solicitors. a few lunching ladies, and shoppers in need of a break from the street and something decent to eat.
And the vibe? On many occasion I have come here for a glass of wine or a light lunch and be happy in the corner reading the paper. On other occassions I have come with friends for a celebration dinner in the evening. Atmosphere was suited for both.
Anything else you'd like to say? When faced with the etrernal problem with where to eat for lunch or even greater concern dinner I have always found the Wig and Pen to be consistant. Faced with the dissapointment of a bad meal, I'll pay the seemingly extra for a happy and quiet life. Value for money? Lunch for Two with a few pints, starters and a coffee came to about £30, which you could probably double at dinner. Is this expensive? No. For the plain and simple reason it's quality, time and time again. I rather come here that a chain bar where you pay £5 for a sandwich of a dubious quality and freshness.

Jo C We went here for someones leaving do at work. We had booked ahead and they set us a lovely table up. We even ordered ahead (by a few days....we are so organised it is ridiculous!) and on the morning of the lunch, we were telephoned to say that the 'peppers were off' - we took it that they were off the menu, and not just a bit mouldy! This was disappointing. We had ordered well in advance, and how could they NOT have any peppers in? This made us wonder if they were frozen and bought in rather than freshly prepared. Even so, we arrived and a lovely girl took our orders at the table. The drinks order was correct (no mean feat these days) but we were waiting a good half our for the food. And when it came, there was a mix up with the steaks and they had to sent back. The chips were so overpriced it was criminal. The salmon sandwiches with a (I think it was) ginger and lime mayonnaise were not overcooked, but just plain tasteless. So, perhaps they were having an off day, but they I wouldn't risk going back. Alison Great place, not the cheapest but well worth the price. Fabulous food, great service
