(Lou)
(Ronn and Scooby) What's your name? Lou Wilford Where is it? Unit 2, Essoldo Buildings, High Street, Rotherham, South Yorkshire S60 What's the number? 01709 382100 What's the grub like, then? I've been here lots of times, so I can give an expert opinion! The food varies depending on what you order. Best things I've eaten here were a tuna steak with a lime and chilli dressing (a special), the chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce from the regular menu, the zabaglione and the scrummy pancakes filled with ice-cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Worst thing was a starter of baked green-lipped mussels - horrible! I've been here with several different guests, mostly men (don't ask), and they've all really liked the food. What did you drink? Glass of house red or house white usually - average restaurant quality, nothing to rave about but reasonably priced. What's the crowd like? Usually a pleasant civilised crowd, couples, small groups, occasional rowdy parties but they're usually housed in a slightly cordoned off area at one side. Haven't seen many kids there. And the vibe? Very pleasant - convivial but not overwhelming. Female staff are all very pleasant and helpful, but their young male waiters are useless, on the whole. Value for money? Generally pretty good value. I've lived in London for past twelve years and compared to that, i feel like they're giving the food away! Usually costs about £15 a head for the works, depending on what you order.
What's your name? Ronn & Scooby What's the grub like, then? We have been going here for a number of years and, obviously we wouldn't keep going back if the food was terrible. We think the food is of a very high standard, and is particularly true to its Italian roots. The pizza is always scrumptious, particularly the Diavola, as is the pasta, and they use fresh tomatos for that fresh tomato taste. If you can squeeze a pudding in, after the very generous main course, you're in for a treat. There is a varied selection of ice-cream dishes including the erupting, flaming Vesuvius and a boat banana-split complete with chocolate oars! They also have a delicious, moist, not too sweet chocolate fudge cake that comes with ice-cream or cream or both. What did you drink? Sparkling mineral water that is always nice and cold. What's the crowd like? Normally a mixed crowd but there aren't usually any teenagers that are unaccompanied. And the vibe? Warm and inviting, very relaxed, the music is not very often appropriate but usually provides some entertainment/ amusement. Anything else you'd like to say? The Manageress is very friendly and welcoming. The pizza is cooked in an authentic wood burning oven and it is possible to watch the pizza being prepared and cooked. We have a tradition of never leaving until the candle has burned out. Value for money? It is brilliant value for money, if you get there before 7pm it's 2 for the price of 1 on pizza and pasta dishes so it usually costs us only £7 and a bit each. Symon Good value, friendly staff, and a good view of the caberet that is Rotherham nightlife, the food is ok however the decor is tired and dated needs cash spending on it. Ok but would not impress a first date. Ben The food isn't anything special but the 2 for 1 offer before 7pm represents fantastic value for money. If that didn't exist I doubt many people would keep returning. But I do find myself frequenting the Italian Pizza Oven quite often. I was recently there in a party of 5 (3 adults, 2 children) and the bill came to £48 (including 2 bottles of wine). Terrific value, the kids loved it, and want to go back again. bramley_apple As with the other folks we've been visiting this place for years. They have a proper wood-fired pizza oven (a la The River Cafe in London), so the pizzas are just superb. Before 7pm its BOGOF on pasta and pizza. Everyone who goes should try the bruschetta (and its unlike the same dish in any other Italian) and stuffed jalapenos chillis are cropping up lately on the specials and they're excellent. Some of the young lads working there can be a bit dopey, but its always been the same (for the last 13 years in my experience) so it becomes part of the charm I reckon.
