This is a scruffy-looking place that's deceptively large inside. Which it needs to be, because if you visit on a busy night, it seems like all of Heeley and Meersbrook are crammed inside stuffing themselves silly. We were encouraged towards the New India Garden by our dear neighbour Marcus, who regularly gets his curry fix here. And he was right, it's a very fine establishment. The menu is extensive, the service is good (unless it's a frantically busy night in which case they overstretch themselves a little) and it'll sort you out with mountains of grub for a pleasantly low price. The passandas and other creamier curries are a little on the rich side for me, but the chicken tikka massala is a winner. The Bull's taste for hot curries has drawn him to some really lovely and tasty dishes. And the tarka dall and other vegetable side dishes are most delicious. We've had take aways from here too, which are also pretty fine. The only thing I'd say is that, like Everest just up the road, the New India Garden sometimes dispenses curries of a quite startling colour. There really isn't any need - their food is tasty enough to speak for itself. - Greedy Cow

Ed Maguire I rate it as being good, and definatley the best this side of town that I've tried. ANd it near the best pub in Sheffield (Sheaf Veiw) too pefect for a nights entertainment.. I think 4 cows it a god grading... for consistanly tasty food, although they do get a bit happy with food colouring some times, I reccomend the Chicken Tamil!
pam parker am sorry but i absolutely hated the food and dont plan to revisit. very uncomfortable seating place and the food ive definately tasted better! Katherine Being a great lover of curry, I can only say that NIG has only dissapointed me once-with a bhindi barjee made with pickled okra....obviously it wasn't the season for it. Other than that the portions are huge and if you can't finish your meal with being so stuffed the staff will happily pack you a take home doggy bag. Dutch Holland I've had the best ever and worst ever curry of my life here (until I went to the Mangla and Gul Shan (where's the review for this one - it's awesome), where the best ever curry was demoted to third. The remaining times I've been in (and to be fair it's quite a few) - they have been better than average. 4 cows is a good rating! Dav Thomas It always amazes me that the New India Gardens gets such good reviews, is it that people just don't bother visiting other curry houses? I've been there twice, both times the food was dreadful, a veggie dish that looked like a can of veg soup with curry powder in it and I don't think the second try was not much better (I had to give it a second chance'cause I thought the first visit had to be an off night). Service was average at best, and the whole feel of the place is dirty. James & Alison We lived close to the NIG for 5 years and regularly visited the place, in fact it became our second home! We now reside in Australia and miss it terribly, due to the poor quality of curry here. We're planning a trip back to the UK later this year and cannot wait to return to the NIG! In short, it's the best curry ever! Rebecca Pierce This place has the honour of serving me with the worst ever curry. A pink passanda which would have stuck up wallpaper. Service with a smile I think not. Had eaten before, but the experience will make me never return. Sorry I disagree. Stuart Maskery Quite surprised to find that this restaurant did not get the full "5 Cows" as its my Indian restaurant of choice even if it means me having to do a 400 mile round trip for a curry. The food and service has always been outstanding when I have visited and I would recomend it without a second thought to anyone as it has to be the best curry house in Sheffield
