What's your name?
Leah & Clare

Where is it?
Vietnamese Noodle Bar, 200-202, London Road, Sheffield, S2

What's the number?
0114 258 3608

What's the grub like, then?
If you're hungry, on a budget and like your food hot & fresh this is the place to go! Don't be put off by the massive choice, (and like we did, order far too much the first time we went!)

The best thing to do is order one main noodle dish between two, then another main course and rice as well - this is plenty for two to eat.

The noodles come in various styles, fried or boiled with choices or meat, veg or seafood - all in lovely tastey sauces (chicken & black bean sauce was good, so was the mixed meats).

And there are plenty of other Vetnamese and Cantonese dishes to choose from (soups, fish, vegetarian) plus starters and desserts.

What did you drink?
They sell soft drinks and have a bring your own policy - wine or beer.

What's the crowd like?
Mixed crowd - students, families, couples. It is more of a cafe than a restaurant - very modern inside, with a few tables seating four, plus a long central table, so don't always expect to get a table to yourselves (which can be fun/annoying depending on your chopstick skills!)

And the vibe?
Nice and noisy - good to hear people actually talking to each other, rather than sitting in silence while they eat! The restaurant has an open kitchen so there's lots going off.

Anything else you'd like to say?
We've now been around 6 times - the food has been excellent everytime - hot, fresh and tasty. We recommended this place to all our friends and haven't heard a mad report yet!try the brie stuffed chicken

Value for money?
Absolutely! A meal for two with drinks comes to around £12 between you.

I've been to this place on many occasions. The food has certainly got worse. They got the punters enthusiastic when they first opened and now they don't seem to care about the food

ellie
am really confused by the ramen comment cus they don't sell it! (they do noodle soups as starters tho). cheap quick yummy food yes - massive selection too!

Alex
I prefer to get a takeaway as the place is small and a bit cramped. But they have so much variety on the menu - though I do end up having the same things over and over because they're so good. Top quality, enjoyable food at a good price.

Krusty
The food here is outstanding, anyone who says different must be very hard to please. The only negative I'd say is that they sometimes mix up your order due to not understanding!!!

Nikki
Being a bit of a ramen freak I had high hopes of this place. Might as well have got a packet of noodles from the chinese supermarket for 24p and stuck a 'value' chicken breast on top I wopuld have got better results. VERY diasappointing.

Vicky
We went as a group of girlies. We got the same response as lala when they realised that some were sharing dishes. we ordered veg spring rolls because most were veggie and we got PORK ones. when my big plate of noodles came (veg was hidding from me) it was swimming it something that looked less than appealing! I will never be going there again! 28/04/05

i just went there for my lunch and it was lovely. i had tofu and seafood soup to start and then i had seared scallops and asparagus with some white rice. mmm good. 31/03/05

I always enjoy going to the noodle bar. the people are nice and always courtious to us. the food is great, large portions and is always very speedy in there service. it is a very busy restaurant, so you shouldn't be surprised if you have to wait to be seated. this place is fantastic, and a real favourite with my friends and family.

Susan
Ugh!!! Maybe it's because I'm a veggie, but I was appalled at the bits of charred meat in my food - they clearly use the same oil for everything and it obviously don't get changed too often. My aubergines were swimming in about three inches of grease. Nasty! My meat-eating friend answered with a shrug when I asked what his food was like. I wish I could have been that positive. This place is always packed and so I thought it would be something special. How naive.

Ali
It can't be as bad as you all say as it is busy every time i walk past.

john
I'd been really looking forward to trying the food here but was a little disappointed. It wasn't bad food, it wasn't cheap though either. Or particularly Vietnamese. The majority of the menu was of English Cantonese influence and didn't have much actual Vietnamese food! I enjoyed what we did have, but it wasn't what I expected.

steve
Having recently moved from Manchester I find Sheffield restaurants a little disappointing, however the Vietnamese noodle bar is a gem. I have eaten only vegetarian options which have been good to excellent. Try the tofu in lemongrass. Prices are very reasonable and I have always found the staff friendly and efficient and the service rapid. In the light of this I find some of the criticisms baffling!

Sarah
Ive been there on a few occasions. There service isn't the best, the staff appear to be rude but the food is good. It's good as a take away service. Its not the ideal place for a nice relxing evening meal. But definately give it a try, you may like it.

Yafai
Totally, totally wrong. i completely disagree on the comments which you have made. The food was amazing and the staff were kind/polite. I suggest people go and make thier owns minds up!!!

hellen
food is exellent, altho portion sizes do vary somewhat - i think my lamb/lettuce/hoi sin starter was way more food than my main. it is expensive tho' & drafty if u get put near the (unused, so presumably could be sealed better) door.

lala
The last time i went with my friends we were treated very badly by the staff. After they had taken our orders and realised several of my friends were sharing dishes they did not seem very happy at all and were talking about us in front of our faces but in chinese. All i have to say is that the service is VERY BAD. Also the lemon chicken had so much sauce on it i could have filled up two glasses with the sauce. TOO MUCH MSG, TOO MUCH OIl, TOO MUCH NOISE. I WOULD NEVER GO THERE AGAIN.

Lola
I like the fresh spring rolls. the thing with the service is the fact that the workers dont speak great english.

Samantha
I absolutely agree with Paul - MSG - 'too much' is too kind - my food was swamped in it, really slimey and revolting. Totally YUCK

Tom
I unfortunately have to agree with most of the other comments here. I went with high hopes only to be annoyed by the grumpy staff and long wait for food. Whilst the aubergine dish I had was OK (if a bit expensive) I was appalled at the profit-making measures they do with the rice and noodle dishes. My girlfriend had noodles with mixed vegetables - which sounded nice enough on the menu. However, when it arrived it was (seriously) 95% noodles, 3% cabbage and 2% other (plain) veg. OK, "it's a NOODLE bar" you might say, but when you order soup at a restaurant would you accept a loaf of tesco value bread and a thimble of soup? I think not! I, for one, won't be going back.

Hairy Mary
The excellent food here is spoiled by the fast food joint ambience and the poor service. If you're looking to take time over a relaxed meal forget it.

Jethro Tull
The service is appalling in the Noodle Bar - people who rate this venue obviously have never eaten a decent meal in their life. I would never go there in a million years unless I was desperately starving. Jethro Tull

I have been there several times (both to eat in and take away) and sampled various dishes off of the menu, mainly consisting of the fried noodle variety. All of the food I have tried so far has been fantastic, and the amount you get for what you pay is excellent. I can never eat a whole portion to my self and the relaxed atmosphere of the place makes it such that you can go in and shamelessly share your food with a friend. I would definalty reccomend the place, mainly to students and people wanting an evening meal on a budget. However I wouldnt necessarily reccomend it for couples wishing to go on a romantic date.

Jane Watkins
Yep massive chunks of ginger, slightly undercooked, "slimy" chicken and very greasy overcooked spring rolls. Waiting staff not friendly and it's not that cheap either! It amazes me that every time I go past there are lots of people in there!

John from Sheffield
I had the Caska (actually supposed to be a Laska) a malaysian dish - excellent in Sydney - average in Sheffield. I would go again - but not out of my way.

Mary Ellen
I had some Fried noodles with seafood which was very tasteful and delicious food. It was a big dish and very cheap. I drank orange juice. It was the best I've ever had in England because it was very fresh. I highly recommend it.

zweg
i think it is absoloutely rubbish

Mike
My experience was generally bad service. I was in a group of people and made my order. When others in my group got their starters I was sat waiting for mine for quite a while. I then asked where it was and they brought me out a dish which was completely different to the one I ordered. I told them it was wrong and they took it away. I then sat again waiting for my starter. In the end I didn't get my starter and no body even told me it wasn't coming. I would not visit the place again just because of the bad service.

Craig
I was very unhappy with the service. A couple of examples are waiting for ages to get someone's attention to be seated and then be rushed to make our order. We were spoken to like we were an inconvenience to the place. We were also very unhappy with the quality of our food. I heard other people comment on the bad quality also.
