5 moos

I've come across several contenders for 'Best Lazy Lunch in Sheffield', but if you fancy something a bit posh, then the Mediterranean's tapas is in my opinion far and away the best I've tried yet.

I took Brother Calf there on a recent visit, where we worked our way through spicy fried potatoes (yummy), olives, salad, bread, pea and pepper tortilla, some scrummy whitebait, monkfish kebabs (a bit dry - the only disappointment) and grilled garlic chicken.

The chicken was so succulent and tasty that I think it's the best chicken I've ever eaten. Ever. Including my own roast chicken. We were stuffed and couldn't finish it all.

I was so impressed that when Mother of Greedy Cow came to visit, I took her there too. Again, we had the chicken, and MOGC declared it a triumph. (I have to apologise to the people in the restaurant at this point - it's not pretty seeing two hardened bovines fight it out for the last piece of chicken…)

The spicy potatoes also returned. We had a mixed salad, and we both remarked on the variety of yummy veg in it. And we had some really amazing grilled prawns, which were juicy and full of garlicky goodness and left us with satisfyingly sticky fingers.

The service was friendly and relaxed - we didn't feel at all pressured to hurry our meal, even though it was nearly 2 o'clock when we arrived, and much later by the time we left.

The only disappointment for us was that, as a Spanish place, there wasn't any cava on the wine list. The French substitute was fine, but it'd be good to get the Spanish stuff in.

That aside, it's my current favourite spot for a posh, laid back weekend lunch.

Great food nice staff pricey but worth it

Had been our favourite restaurant for a couple of years. Not any more.On our last visit, having booked a table a fortnight in advance,we found ourselves seated directly next to where the waiters do the bills etc. We did get moved eventually, but the Manager/owner clearly sulked at the impudence of customers who paid £100 for a meal for two and actually wanted a decent table. Food has always been good but be warned about seating arrangements.

This place is a gem. Specials board has a great selection. Food is very well cooked, service great & it's good value. Puts most Ecclesall road places to shame. 27/05/05

GOOD FOOD, GOOD SERVICE, GOOD WINE, GOOD-NIGHT.

Anyone who offers that range of fish, and tells you with a straight face that they are all fresh, is suspicious. Eating the fish bears out this suspicion. My bass tasted old.

What posh food was like in 1970.

The only place to eat in Sheffield where the food and standard of service is first class. The variety of fish on offer is mouth watering - the barracuda was delicious.

This is the first time we've been since the new owners took over. If anything it's even better. We've been all over Sheff trying the various so called tapas places but this is still the best. We went on a fairly busy Fri lunch, the staff where really friendly and there was obviously a lot of regulars in that the staff where on 1st name terms with, this is always a good sign of a popular restaurant. The tapas menu was extensive 2 of us shared 8 dishes and i've got to say that non disappointed and the portions were generous. Maybe a few Moroccan mezes could be included, because I believe the owners are Moroccan. But no complaints definitlely 5 moos

The tapas have nothing to do with what you get in Spain, and, in fact, nothing to talk at home about. The Saint Emillion Grand Cru was a real disappoiuntment. 0.5 cows from my side.

Annie and me decided to give this one a whirl after savouring the delish aromas outside, and what a treat! We shared braised kidneys, whitebait and pan fried sardine with some spicy potatoes and bread. Divine! The portions were generous, and though we spent quite a lot of money because we had wine and pud too it is possible to have a really nice nosh for a tenner a piece. Being as we were talking about pud, I haven't enjoyed anything as much as the poached pears for ages. Moooooo! All in all, five moos. Highly recommended.

The tapas on Bank holiday Monday was fabulous, (try the braised kidneys)- only disappointment were the fish cakes. Everything including wine was lovely and finished off with chololate coffee beans! One of our favourite restaurants - every time we go we come away happy.

Will definitely try it out -

Have to agree, we took some of our distributors for dinner and found it to be fantastic even down to the suggested main course. Great wine list and food. I'd recommend it to anyone.

The review is spot on! I've been to The Mediterranean on 3 occasions and each visit has been a real treat. The tapas is superb, the seafood dishes being of particularly good quality. Try washing it all down with a bottle of Chablis. The service was relaxed, friendly and helpful - I'd recommend this place highly.
