From Seychelles, Jules ‘Pusso’ Dugasse performs under the stage name King Pusso. He calls his style SeyShatta, in a nod to the influences of Seychellois culture and music as well as Jamaica and the French Caribbean - the birthplace of shatta, which is a genre of dancehall. Pusso was only eight years old when he dreamed of being an international performer, but he didn’t have the support of his parents. So he put that dream on the backburner, got a degree in art and design, and a job. But the music kept calling. At first he recorded and produced tracks during his lunchbreaks, before taking the plunge in 2012 and joining the Louis Gang with three others. The group won Best Group at a local awards in 2017 and again in 2018. Then Pusso launched his solo career. His mission is to take the music of Seychelles to the rest of the world. In September 2025 he released I am Dancehall, a five-track EP that's making waves in countries as far apart as Nepal, Malta, Australia, the UK and the US.
