Last week, protesters in Hong Kong organised screenings of a Netflix documentary about Ukraine's Maidan Square protests called ‘Winter on Fire’. Jeff Li and Fan Wang of BBC Chinese met some protesters moved to see their own situation mirrored in past events in Ukraine. And for Diana Kuryshko of BBC Ukrainian, events in Hong Kong brought back memories of 2014. Journalists' journeys Anne Ngugi of BBC Swahili grew up in a village dreaming of becoming a journalist. She shares her journey, which began writing news bulletins on daily events for her friends at school. Belarusian squirrels The spotted ground squirrel was believed to have been hunted to extinction during the Soviet era, but recently they've popped up again in Belarus, to the delight of conservationists. Tatsiana Yanutsevich of BBC Russian paid a visit. Remembering Robert Mugabe The death of Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe was announced today. He leaves a mixed legacy, from the optimism of independence in 1980, to the hyperinflation and international isolation of later years. BBC Africa's Kim Chakanetsa and Stanley Kwenda, both Zimbabweans, shared their memories of his rule at the end of 2017, when Mugabe was ousted from power. Iran’s “bearded women” football fans A number of Iranian women were recently arrested for previously attending football matches disguised as men. But at the same time, the authorities announced that for the first time, women will be allowed to attend Iran's next international match.
