Myanmar votes as military holds first election since 2021 coup

Weekend

Available for 15 days

Voting is taking place in the opening phase of Myanmar's general election - the first poll since the military seized power in a coup nearly five years ago. The ruling junta has framed the vote as a pathway back to stability- but critics say the heavily restricted elections are a sham. Also in the programme: Developments in the conflict in Sudan where the UN says a new flashpoint is emerging, an American health advocate on how supermarkets are in the business of selling products, not providing nutrition; and a global walking challenge which has taken a British man 27 years! Joining Julian Worricker to discuss this and more are Nataliya Vasilyeva, Russian freelance reporter for the New York Times newspaper, and David Patrikarakos, a British author and journalist.
