The Hong Kong media tycoon and pro-democracy campaigner, Jimmy Lai, who's seventy-eight and a British citizen, had been found guilty of foreign collusion and sedition. His family says the sentence is cruel and draconian. The Conservative Sanae Takaichi has won a landslide victory in Japan's election. She now faces both economic challenges at home and security issues abroad. Venezuela is to introduce an amnesty law which is expected to free hundreds of political prisoners.
