US says it's reached a "framework" deal on Greenland

Newsday

Available for 29 days

President Trump says he's exploring a potential deal on Greenland after talks with NATO. He backed off on threats to tariff European allies that had opposed his plan for America to acquire the island. We get reaction from Canada, a NATO member. Seven countries including Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt say they will join the US President's Board of Peace. The board was originally thought to be aimed at helping end the two-year war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and oversee reconstruction. But its proposed charter does not mention the Palestinian territory and appears to be designed to supplant functions of the UN. And the wife of Uganda’s veteran opposition figure, Kizza Besigye, says her husband is seriously ill in detention. We speak to her about his condition. Presenters: James Copnall and Anne Soy (Photo: U.S. President Trump holds a bilateral meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
