Kwasi Kwarteng's swift downfall

World Business Report

Available for over a year

The downfall of Kwasi Kwarteng is one of the fastest in British political history, following a poorly named mini-budget which appear to have undermined years of Conservative economic strategy. Key elements of his proposed economic strategy proved too unpopular and led to his removal as chancellor as the prime minister's own future remains in the balance. China’s President Xi Jinping is expected to be appointed leader of the Chinese Communist party next week in his bid to extend his tenure as leader for a third term, but he faces enormous economic challenges as youth unemployment reaches a record high and growth an historic low.
