Boris Johnson set to meet Emmanuel Macron

The German chancellor Angela Merkel has made it clear it's up to the British prime minister Boris Johnson to find a way of reaching a deal on leaving the European Union. At his first meeting with Mrs Merkel since taking office, Mr Johnson repeated his demand that the EU scrap the backstop. The World Health Organisation says initial findings suggest that microplastics in drinking water pose a low risk to human health. There's been violence in Cameroon's Anglophone region sparked by the life sentences passed on the Ambazonian separatist leader Sisiku Julius Ayuk Tabe and nine of his followers earlier this week.
