African Union suspends Sudan after deadly violence

The African Union has suspended Sudan's membership "with immediate effect", amid an upsurge of violence in the capital that has seen dozens killed; the British prime minister, Theresa May, will officially step down as the leader of the Conservative Party on Friday, but will remain as prime minister until her successor is chosen; and Mexico has deployed 6,000 members of its National Guard on its border with Guatemala in an attempt to stem the flow of migrants heading to the US.
