Modi takes clear lead in India general election

Newsday

Available for over a year

Early results in India's general election suggest the governing coalition of the BJP and its allies, led by the prime minister Narendra Modi, are heading for a comfortable majority. The National Democratic Alliance is poised to get well over three hundred seats in the lower house of the Indian parliament, the Lok Sabha. Pressure has intensified for the British Prime Minister Theresa May to step down, following the resignation of a key cabinet minister, Andrea Leadsom, over the government's approach to Brexit. We hear the story of a young man from rural Ghana, who heard stories on the radio of West African migrants dying on their way to Europe and felt compelled to act. He took what little savings he had and bought glasses with a hidden camera and set off to record the journey.
