UK must give back control of the Chagos Islands

Newsday

Available for over a year

The United Nations General Assembly has backed a resolution demanding Britain give back control of the Chagos islands in the Indian Ocean to Mauritius within six months. The non binding vote saw a -hundred and sixteen countries support the resolution, with only six against. We hear the story of a young man from rural Ghana, who heard stories on the radio of West African migrants dying on their way to Europe and felt compelled to act. He took what little savings he had and bought glasses with a hidden camera and set off to record the journey. Pressure has intensified for the British prime minister Theresa May to step down, following the resignation of a key cabinet minister, Andrea Leadsom, over the government's approach to Brexit.
