The counting of votes is about to begin in India after a staggered general election held on seven different days in April and May. About six hundred million ballots were cast, making it the biggest democratic exercise in the world. Pressure has intensified for the British prime minister Theresa May to step down, following the resignation of a key cabinet minister, Andrea Leadsom, over the government's approach to Brexit. A court in Zambia has appointed a provisional liquidator for Konkola Copper Mines a subsidiary of the multinational Vedanta. The government says Vedanta owes its creditors money; the company is worried about Zambia's plans to change the tax system to give it a bigger share of revenue from its natural resources.
