China and US attempt to resolve trade row

Newsday

Available for over a year

China's trade negotiator, Liu He, has said imposing more tariffs is not the solution to the dispute between his country and the United States. Speaking hours before Washington raises duties on two hundred billion dollars worth of Chinese goods, from ten to twenty five percent, Mr Liu called for a rational and candid exchange. Despite the political uncertainty in South Sudan, people are getting on with their everyday lives, including girls trying to go to school. While campaigners and foreign donors are pushing to get more girls into education, many families insist that only boys should get an education. Votes are being counted in South Africa's election, with President Cyril Ramaphosa hoping to prevent a slide in support for the governing African National Congress. With results declared in some 70% of districts, it has won about 57% of the ballot.
