Japan's emperor begins historic abdication

Emperor Akihito of Japan has begun the ceremonial process of abdicating the throne in favour of his son, bring an end to his thirty-year reign. The United States says it is determined to hunt down the surviving leaders of the Islamic State group, after the release of a video message from Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Cambridge University is launching an investigation into its historical links with slavery.
