The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has said that he accepts the verdict of the voters, after his AK party suffered major defeats in cities in Sunday's local elections. Votes are being counted in the presidential election in Ukraine, where a comedian who plays a fictional president on television is on course to win the first round. Australia plans to become the first country in the world to impose jail terms and multi-million-dollar fines for social media giants that do not quickly remove violent material.
