Shipping Industry Reaches Climate Agreement

World Business Report

Available for over a year

Discussions have been taking place this week in London at the meeting of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) to agree a global strategy to reduce carbon emissions. For the first time, the industry has agreed to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. John Kornerup, head of sustainability strategy at Maersk, has been at the talks and tells us more. One of the founding fathers of the gambling industry in Macau - Stanley Ho - has retired at the very grand old age of 96. Ben Bland of the Financial Times in Hong Kong tells us about his contribution to the industry. We review the biggest stories of the week in business with Bloomberg technology reporter Sarah Frier and Joseph Sternberg, the Europe editorial page editor for the Wall Street Journal. And in the Netherlands, the traditional business of making flower in a windmill has been declining for years. Just forty people in the country still earn a living from making flour in this way. The BBC's Anna Holligan has been to meet one man trying to attract a new generation into his profession. (Photo: Ships docked at Tanjung Pagar container port in Singapore.
