On his first full day in office, Mexico's new president, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, has signed a decree creating a truth commission to investigate the disappearance of 43 students four years ago. Former intelligence agents in Burundi have given a detailed account to the BBC of what they say is a plan to eliminate voices critical of the president having assumed a third term. The Croatian footballer, Luka Modric, has won the prestigious Ballon d'Or award in Paris.
