China and US Face Off on Tariffs

Big Boss Interview

Available for over a year

President Xi Jinping's top economic adviser, Liu He, has arrived in the United States. His visit coincides with hearings at the Office of the US Trade Representative to finalise tariffs on 50 billion dollars worth of Chinese goods. Amanda DeBusk from the law firm Dechert joins the show to give her analysis on this critical moment. Then, for a closer look at the proposed tariffs, we turn to Kim Gittleson, the BBC’s Business Reporter in New York. Heather McGregor, an entrepreneur and Dean of the Herriot Watt Business School in Scotland, delivers the first instalment of what will be a series of audio columns. This time around she's looking at the art of negotiation. Facebook has come under fire for failing to do enough to police what their billions of users post, including graphic violence, sexual content and fake news. Catherine Miller, director of policy at Dot Everyone, gives her view on Facebook’s own report into the extent of the problem. And finally, the director of the upcoming Captain Marvel movie has hinted there are plans to bring the first Muslim superhero to the big screen. The character, Kamala Khan, AKA Ms Marvel, caused quite a stir with her comic debut in 2014. Will her movie debut be any different? Kat Vendetti of ComicsVerse joins us to discuss. All throughout the show we’ll be joined by David Moser of the Yenching Academy at Peking University in Beijing, and Marketplace reporter Nancy Marshall-Genzer in Washington.
