US Federal Reserve Raises Interest Rates

World Business Report

Available for over a year

The US central bank has moved to raise interest rates for the third time this year, we hear from the BBC's Yogita Limaye in Washington. Reports say Disney is close to confirming a $60bn takeover of parts of 21st Century Fox. Clare Enders of Enders Analysis tells us how significant such a deal would be. Also in the programme, as the European Parliament votes in favour of starting the next phase of Brexit talks, we take stock of the negotiations with our regular economic commentator Roger Bootle of Capital Economics, and Heidi Hautala, a Finnish MEP for the Green League. The European Commission is considering an outright ban on neonicotinoid pesticides that are blamed by some for a decline in bee populations around the world.Plus, from bull markets to dragon bonds, we explain some of the animal jargon used in business and finance.
