Indian Banks Close Amid Strike Action

World Business Report

Available for over a year

Thousands of Indian banks have been closed after workers went on strike. C H Venkatachalam is general secretary of the All India Bank Employees Association, and explains the impact of the action. Also in the programme, the drugs giant Johnson & Johnson has been ordered to pay $417m to a woman who blames her ovarian cancer on use of talcum powder. Katherine Taylor of Ovarian Cancer Action gives us the background to the case. We look at the arguments for and against global trade with our regular economic commentator Roger Bootle of Capital Economics. We have a report from the Netherlands about the business of dying, where plans to further relax euthanasia laws are attracting opposition. Plus Polly Kemp of Equal Representation for Actresses discusses the stark gender pay gap recently revealed by Forbes magazine's latest lists of top paid actors and actresses.
