Chef Marcus Wareing: ‘You have to dig deep and work hard’

Marcus Wareing is originally from Southport in Merseyside and is the son of a fruit and vegetable merchant. He moved to London at age 18 to take a job at The Savoy Hotel, and shortly after moved to La Gavroche, where he met Gordon Ramsey, who would go on to become his mentor. The pair worked together for more than 15 years. Marcus received his first Michelin star at just 26, for L’Oranger in St James’s. He’s owned and run several restaurants over the years - notably The Gilbert Scott in the St Pancras Hotel and the self-titled ‘Marcus’ in Belgravia. Since 2014, Marcus has been a judge on MasterChef: The Professionals. He’s the author of 9 cookbooks. Marcus Wareing became a Listed Londoner in 2016.
