Currently, there are just two routes on and off Canvey which regularly cause delays and tailbacks not only for the island, but the surrounding Essex towns. However, new proposals for a tramway system between Canvey, Benfleet and Thurrock could be more effective than a road bridge, according to the Thames Gateway Tramlink project.
