'He wasn’t on the front line? Like heck he wasn’t!'

Available for over a year

Private Gareth Bellingham from Stoke-on-Trent served in the 3rd Batallian The Mercian Regiment, and was killed while on patrol in the Helmand province in June 2011. His stepmother Kim Bellingham spoke to BBC's Lee Blakeman around President Donald Trump's comments about the UK's involvement in the conflict. He angered veterans, MPs and the families of those that were killed in the Afghanistan conflicts after he claimed that UK soldiers stayed back from the frontlines and weren't involved in fighting. After facing heavy criticism, he has since taken to social media to make a u-turn, posting that British troops were "brave and heroic" and their sacrifices would never be forgotten.
