Mason: 'Grateful but painful to look back'

West Bromwich Albion

Available for over a year

Albion boss Ryan Mason talks about returning to Hull for the first time since he was forced to retire from football due to a fractured skull. The former midfielder joined the then Premier League side for what is still a club record fee of £13m in 2016. 20 games later his career was ended due to an aerial collision with Chelsea defender Gary Cahill during a match at Stamford Bridge in January 2017. The now 34-year-old told BBC Radio WM he's 'super grateful' for everything the club did for him and he retains a connection to the city through his son, who was born in Hull and his birthday falls on the day Mason's Baggies team travel to East Yorkshire to face The Tigers in the Championship.
